Basic Hand Splinting Workshop
Practical sessions will include:
Volar hand splint
Wrist support
Thumb splint
These workshops are aimed at occupational therapists, physiotherapists and therapy assistants who are new to hand splinting or have not worked in that clinical area for a number of years.
The training will include an introduction to hand anatomy and physiology, the biomechanical principles of splinting, splint design and practical application. The session will commence with a power point presentation, followed by a splinting demonstration by one of our experienced hand therapists. There will then be ample opportunity for all delegates to have a go at making a number of different static splints.
The session will conclude by discussing various case studies to ensure that therapists understand the clinical reasoning behind splinting and ensure that they are competent at prescribing a hand splint and advising on a wearing regime.
The workshops will cover the following areas:
Basic hand anatomy
The principles of splinting
Introduction to thermoplastic materials
Pattern design, fabrication of splints & strapping
Clinical reasoning and wearing regimes
