Dynamic Hand Splinting Workshop
Practical sessions will include:
Thumb splint with extension outrigger
Dorsal splint with finger extension outrigger
Volar splint with finger flexion
A dynamic splint refers to a hand splint that includes moving components.
Our dynamic splint workshops are aimed at occupational therapists who have some experience of hand splinting but want to develop their splinting skills further.
Training will include a comprehensive seminar on hand anatomy, physiology and sensorimotor function, followed by a demonstration of how to fabricate a dynamic hand splint. Various different design options will be discussed before delegates are encouraged to make their own dynamic splint.
The workshop will encourage interactive discussions on case studies, clinical reasoning and wearing regimes. We will also explore the different designs to dynamic splints and how these can facilitate hand function and promote recovery from soft tissue injuries.
These workshops will include the following areas;
Advanced hand anatomy and physiology
The principles of dynamic splinting
Introduction to thermoplastic materials
Pattern design, fabrication of splints & strapping
Clinical reasoning and wearing regimes
Case studies
